Frostwork / Cruelty's Heart - Beyond Bloody Banners Far And Haunted Winters Graven - Album Review

Year: 2014

Europe is the hub for black metal. Though black metal exists outside Europe, the European bands have the better quality and quantity. UK is one place which played a vital role in the shaping of this genre with bands like Venom giving a big boost to black metal. But today, there are very few black metal bands from the UK. Is the black metal scene there dwindling? Or is it just a myth? Judging by this release, it sure looks to be the latter.

Landskap - I (LP) - Album Review

Year: 2014

Very few bands are able to make music like  free flowing water, with little or no friction. From the streets of London, England comes the psychedelic rock / doom metal band Landskap, to do just that and achieves it beyond everyone's expectations. With shades of funeral doom all over its music, Landskap (Swedish for landscape) brings out a very simple and no frills debut EP record through Iron Bonehead Productions.

Black Death From The British Isles - Featuring Abyssal and Lvcifyre

Year: 2014

Of all the subgenres in metal, two of the most extreme kinds have always been black metal and death metal. While death metal is known for its down tuned brutality and gore, black metal deals with treble high tremolo storms and hyper blast beat drumming. Ever since the inception of these two genres, bands have been trying to blend them together, to create a sound that is both brutal and sinister at the same time. I am not talking about blackened death metal. Rather, I am talking about proper black / death metal that have been blended successfully by bands like Archgoat, Preludium, Blasphemy, Necrophobic etc. I am going to introduce you to new bands that do a solid job in bringing out the best of both genres. Both bands are from the UK and both have released their sophomore full lengths recently. Though they both play similar styles of music, there are some contrasting differences that set them apart.

Meat Train - Man Made Flesh - Album Review

Year: 2013

2013 is drawing to an end and thanks to this webzine, I had the opportunity to check a lot of underground bands that I normally wouldn’t have listened to. It is quite surprising how sometimes a band can be so talented and yet remain so underrated and unknown. I can quote a lot of bands like that, which I discovered this year. The latest addition to that list is the London based Death Metal / Grindcore outfit called Meat Train.

Aetherium Mors - Entrails of the Soul EP - Album Review

Year: 2013

When I was a kid a long time ago (in the early 90's) the death metal scene was growing, and demos were a big part of the scene. Somewhere along the road, when the scene exploded, it was almost impossible to keep track of all the unsigned bands. There wasn't enough time or money to focus on anything but bands that were signed. This EP from the unsigned UK-based blackened death metal band Aetherium Mors makes me wonder how much I've missed out on.

Carcass - Surgical Steel - Album Review

Year: 2013

A perfect blend of Death Metal and melody. I used to wonder if such a thing can even exist! Evidence from the music of most Melodic Death Metal bands today, suggested otherwise, as they were over saturated with melody to the point that they became simple melodic metal with harsh vocals. But, if there is one band that could pull off the perfect ratio of both Death Metal and melody, it ought to be a band that have proved their merit in both the fields. That is exactly what Carcass had done in the past and now, with their comeback album about to be unleashed, they prove that they are the right band to accomplish the task of delivering the perfect mix.

Black Sabbath - 13 - Album Review

Year: 2013

Of all my years of lurking in the interwebs, I have seen one particular argument rear its ugly head many times over. "Who gets the credit for inventing Metal as a genre?". While some may say Led Zeppelin, others may say Blue Cheer or Deep Purple. The reality is though, no single band can be credited for inventing this amazing form of music. However, there is one band, without whose existence, Metal may not have been as we know today. And that band, undeniably, is Black Sabbath. These lads from Birmingham, UK, started out way back in 1968, under the name Earth. Through the course of their 45 years of existence, this band has undergone numerous line up changes and stylistic changes, while at the same time, remaining true to Heavy Metal. Now in 2013, the band has broken out of a long slumber, to unleash doom upon the mortal world once again, this time, in the form of 13.

Gloryhammer - Tales From The Kingdom Of Fife - Album Review

Year: 2013

Christopher Bowes, is the lead singer of Scottish Pirate Metal band Alestorm - the band that brought tales of pirates to metal. So what does this guy do when he is not plundering the high seas while brandishing the jolly roger? If his new side project Gloryhammer is anything to go by, he probably straps on his knight armor and charges forward into battles of fantasy medieval kingdoms.

Ravenous - We Are Become Death - Album Review

Year: 2013

Ravenous is a Thrash Metal band hailing from Southampton, United Kingdom. Their debut record 'We Are Become Record' was released on Coffee Jingle Records on 16th February 2013.

Recently the metal community has seen a resurgence of the thrash metal scene or the re-thrash scene as it is popularly known. Majority of the bands in this scene, seem to suffer from a single fault, that they lack originality. They tend to imitate successful thrash bands from the 80s. However there are a few bands that shine through.

Bullet For My Valentine - Temper Temper - Album Review

Year: 2013

Bullet For My Valentine is a Welsh Melodic Metalcore band formed in 1998. They have been garnering a lot of attention in the past few years with albums like 'The Poison', 'Scream Aim Fire'  and 'Fever'.

When it comes to this band, you either love them or hate them. Rewind 5 to 6 years, and I would have proudly called myself a fan of this band. I really got into this band around the time when 'Scream Aim Fire' was released. But years passed, my taste developed and I pretty much ended up losing all interest in this band.
